Monday, September 14th

If you have any questions or comments about the blog feel free to leave a message here or email either Ms. Wallwork or Mrs. Swanson.

Social: We have begun our unit on Judaism and Christianity. Your child will have questions for each chapter with chapter 1 and chapter 2 due this week.

Science:

Students began their second science unit, Rocket Science. This week they named the six types of energy, identify the parts of a rocket and the types of energy used in launching a rocket, and what fossil fuels are. The first student to bring Mrs. Swanson a list of the six types of energy will receive a prize. Thank you for all the donations already received for the rockets.

Language Arts:

We are on lesson 5 in spelling and are covering infinitives. A reminder about nouns, adjectives, verbs, and other grammar rules would be a good thing to go over at home. We are finishing our practical writing unit this week and will begin our poetry unit next week. This unit will end with a coffee house for friends and family. Look for more information at a later date.

Math:

Ms. Wallwork's class will be taking a test on Thursday after learning more about reciprocals and multiplication and division of fractions.

Mrs. Swanson's class did VERY well on their last test. Every student received about a 90%. This week students are working on rounding, estimating, using the number line to represent fractions and mixed numbers, finding averages, line graphs, factors, prime numbers, and greatest common factor. These are all review of concepts they have previously learned.

Reading:

In Ms. Wallwork's class is finishing their projects on the Mississippi this week. On Thursday of this week we will begin looking at Hiroshima. There are a lot of new words the students will be learning. If you have access to the Internet at home dictionary.com is a great place to review. It will pronounce and show the word in a sentence along with the definition.

Ms. Schmitz' reading class is reading about Greek Gods.
