Intersession is around the corner! Due to many students being absent be sure to stay caught up in all classes by making good use of your time. Also, if you weren't able to make it for conferences be sure to contact your child's homeroom teacher to set up a time that is convenient for you.

Social: We will start out this week studying about the Spartans, and Athenians. Your son or daughter should be able to tell you what a city-state is and how we got our words politics and police. We will also watch the movie Hercules.

Science: Students are exploring gas as a state of matter with a neat experiment. They will be learning the difference between a physical and chemical change, and finally covering the forms of heat energy; conduction, convection, and radiation. The at-home lab for this quarter will be given to your child Wednesday in science class and another copy will be sent in your child's Thursday folder.

Language Arts: Spelling Lesson 10 (Wallwork) Lesson 8 (Kolstad) this week along with a grammar rule that teaches about antecedents or possessive pronouns! Don't forget to study for the spelling test. Reminder to keep your eyes out for a Coffee House date. We are well underway with our poetry and each student should have written at least 12 poems by now, covering Haiku's, Cinquain's, Diamante's, and Five Senses poems.

Math:

Ms. Wallwork's class will start out the week on lesson 86 with a test to follow on Friday, October 30th. Some of the concepts being covered include; area of a circle (3.14 x radius squared), finding unknown factors, and using proportions to solve ratio word problems.

Mrs. Swanson's class is is working on subtracting fraction and mixed numbers from whole numbers, adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals numbers and whole numbers, squares and square roots, using zero as a placeholder and circle graphs.
