A new quarter is here and a fresh start for your child.
Social: This week we will do a large overview of the first five chapters on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will take detailed notes about chapter one. Be sure to look over your notes daily, you never know when there might be a pop quiz.
Science: Our second unit on energy begins on Tuesday. Students will discover the three types of matter and how the molecules move in each type. This unit involves a lot of labs so if your child misses class be prepared to have them either make-up the lab or directions will be sent home to complete the lab.
Language Arts: We are starting out the week on lesson 9 for spelling and learning about different types of pronouns. We will also be learning how to prewrite, compose, and edit. Our poetry unit is in full swing.
Reading: On Monday, we will be going through our new Scholastic magazine working with comprehension and vocabulary. This week is the start to our new novel, A Wrinkle in Time. It will be a change of pace from Hiroshima. Hiroshima was very well received.
Math:
Ms. Wallwork's class will be doing proportions, order of operations, and use cross product to determine if two ratios are equal. There will be a test on Wednesday. Secret question: Do you know what the acronym PEMDAS stands for?
Mrs. Swanson's class will work on writing percents as fractions, decimal place value, and reading and writing decimal numbers. There will be the next test on Thursday and an enrichment day on Friday.
Notes and Reminders:
Please keep your child at home if they are running a fever, have a cough, or sore throat. This will prevent the spread of the germs present in their systems. Call ahead for homework if needed.
If you have any questions feel free to send Ms. Wallwork or Mrs. Swanson an email or leave a message on this blog.
Reminder also if you have any scrapbook type material you would like to donate, Mrs. Kolstad and Ms. Wallwork are working on a poetry project with their students where these items are needed.
