December 7, 2009 (Pearl Harbor)

Yes, we are getting into the last days before our winter break. Be sure to stay caught up on all of your work. Reminder, our 2nd annual Coffee House will be Friday, December 11th at 10 am. Be sure to check in at the front office before making your way to Mrs. Swanson's room

Social: We are covering The Golden Age of Athens and The Peloponnesian War in our Ancient Greece and Rome unit. Stay prepared for mini pop quizes and be sure to answer all chapter questions.

Science: Continuing our study of the human body we reviewed the parts of the lymphatic system and what is in our blood. Students were also given the information on their project for this unit, a disease poster. They will each be assigned a disease to research and include what the disease is, how you contract the disease, and how to prevent getting the disease. This will not be due until Wednesday, January 6th.

Language Arts: Well our poetry unit is coming to an end. Please be sure to get your permission slip in if you intend to watch Long Shots. Also, think about the poem that you would like to share with our audience on Friday. Yes, there will be spelling this week with a test on Thursday.

Math: Ms. Wallwork will have a test today, Monday, December 7th. The week will continue on with ratio boxes, experimental outcomes and conversion from metric to US Customary System.

Mrs. Swanson class started the week with a test. Then completed an investigation of displaying data in graphs including a circle graph, bar graph, pictograph, line plot, and stem-and-leaf plot. The rest of the week they completed lessons on rounding decimal numbers, mentally dividing decimal by 10 and 100, decimal charts, and simplifying fractions.

Mrs. Schmitz math class is working on long division, fractions of groups, and surveys.

Reading: Anne Frank has begun in Ms. Wallwork's class again with a lot of focus on the vocabulary and comprehension. We are all looking forward to reading this novel. Feel free to get yourself a copy if you would like to read along with your son or daughter.

Ms. Puringer's class is Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIHM. This book will go through the month of December.

Mrs. Schmitz is finishing The Prince and the Pauper and writing from the Authors Pt. of View in L.A. We will start level 6 next week.
