December 21, 2009 Happy Holidays!
Yes, it is hard to believe but there are only three days of school this week. Be sure to have all your work turned in before you leave on Wednesday, so you can relax and enjoy spending time with your family over break.
Social: We are a little over half way through our Ancient Greece and Rome unit. On Tuesday, we will be talking about Alexander the Great and reviewing chapters 7 through 9. Don't forget to stay up on all of the vocabulary. A great resource to use is http://www.dictionary.com/, it is great for pronunciation also.
Science: In science, we will be finishing our Human Body unit by learning about the ways we prevent disease. In students Thursday Folder this week, you will find an At-Home lab that is just a quick discussion about vaccinations and hereditary dieseases, this will be due Wednesday, January 6th. You will also find a review for the test. Students have their Disease Poster that is due Wednesday, January 6th, the day of their test. This shouldn't be new work for students since this was all assigned before break.
Language Arts: Because of the short week, we will not have a spelling test this week. We will cover grammar rule 17 though and continue with our descriptive writing unit. Question for this week are adjectives and adverbs?
Math: Ms. Wallwork's class is covering area of complex shapes and transformations. There will be no test this week.
Mrs. Swanson's class is learning about the difference between probablity and chance and adding mixed numbers. Students will complete an enrichment activity on Wednesday that pretains to the MCAs.
Reading: Ms. Wallwork's class will be putting together a small potato recipe book this week. Potatoes were a main staple for Anne Frank while she was hiding in the Secret Annex. It was affordable and would store for long lengths of time.
Reminders:
*No Panther program this week.
*Turn in all calendar money.
*Assembly on Wednesday in the afternoon.
*There is no school from Thursday, December 24th through Friday, January 1st. We will see everyone back after the break starting Monday, January 4th.
Things to do over break:
Clean out and organize your backpack.
Spend wonderful time with your family.
Do a bit of reading, escape to other worlds.
Get outside and play.
Get plenty of rest.
