This will allow for a much broader range of discussion and sharing of information. Students will be creating journals with pictures as we read and answering comprehension questions through the play.

Don't forget to study for spelling, unit 18 or 8 (Wallwork) lesson 17 for both levels in Ms. A's class. I expect we will come across new math concepts, because of skipping so many lessons, and we will stop to be sure there is complete understanding of any new concept.

Mrs. Swanson's class is working on comparing fractions by converting to decimal form, finding unstated information in fraction problems, capacity, area of triangles, and using a constant factor to solve ratio problems.

Reading: Ms. Wallwork's class has begun Travels with Charlie and will be plotting his travels across the United States and we will also continue with daily journals.

Updates and Reminders:

Physical Education Skatetime/C’Motion Reminder

From February 16th-22nd, the K-3 Physical Education classes will be participating in a program called Skatetime and the 4-6 Physical Education classes will be participating in a high energy dance driven program called C’Motion. Our big unit is nearing the end, so be sure to answer all questions and keep up on the vocabulary. Our next unit will cover The Enlightenment Period, where you will get to make your own power point presentation.

Science: Our next unit is ready to begin! The unit is on Plate Tectonics: Movement of the Earth. It will be the only unit, other than the biography project, that is part of third quarter. This is due to the length/content of the unit and the amount of class time used to test students for both NWEA and MCAs and prepare them for the tests using Study Island. This week students will begin by using a vocabulary study on important terms to understand how the Earth's plates move.

Language Arts: Spelling 15 this week along with learning about specific placement of commas. It would be wonderful if your child could talk to you about interest and using a savings account.

Mrs. Swanson's math class students will work on multiplying and dividing mixed numbers, using prime factorization to reduce fractions, lengths of segments, and complementary and supplementary angles.

Reading: Ms. Wallwork's class is nearing the end of Anne Frank and we will finish off the unit by watching the movie and presenting what we learned about the various people who helped the Frank family in hiding for two years.

Updates and Reminders:

Let’s celebrate our Vikings and come dressed in purple on Friday, January 22nd. If you did not receive your child's mid-term please contact their homeroom teacher. Also, do not forget the Winter Music Concert tomorrow, (Tuesday, December 15th), at 7:10pm for 4-6 grade students. Students should arrive at 7:00. Choir students should be there at 6:00. Also, congrats to the boy's basketball team for their first victory Friday night against Becker.

Social: This week we are learning about Socrates and the Socratic Method. We are also learning how the Golden Age of Athens came to be and the philosophers from that time period. Currently, students are discussing and taking notes from a power point.

Science: This week students are learning about the pathogens that invade our body and our lines of defense against them. There will be a quick lab about spreading germs as well. Students were assigned a disease to research and include what the disease is, how you contract the disease, and how to prevent getting the disease. This will not be due until Wednesday, January 6th.

Language Arts: Well we finished up our poetry unit with a very successful Coffee House. Thank you all for attending, I know the students really enjoyed seeing everyone there. This week we will be starting our Descriptive writing unit with a pretest. Don't forget to study those spelling words.

Level 7 spelling words: vacant, apartment, resident, offer, permit, kitchen, complain, property, enormous, and consent.
